AI Website Costs: What Actually Drives the Price?
Why AI website quotes vary so widely, and the exact items and questions that determine your real cost.
"I heard AI makes websites cheap — so why are the quotes all over the place?" It's the question we hear most. On one search page you'll see someone who shipped a landing page in an afternoon for free, right next to a multi-thousand-dollar proposal. Here's the short answer: AI compresses build time, but it doesn't delete the cost line items. Most of the price gap comes from what each party counts as "the deliverable."
This is the official SAENRU blog, and we build websites for clients too. We'll flag our own pricing clearly when we get there.
What actually determines the cost of an AI-built website?
The number of moving parts matters more than the number of pages. Ten static marketing pages cost less than a five-page site with login, payments, and an admin panel. Even when AI drafts the code in minutes, verification, integration, deployment, and handover still take human hours.
- Functionality type: is it read-only information, or an app that stores data and changes state?
- Content ownership: do you already have copy, photos, and a logo, or must the builder produce them?
- Integrations: payments, booking, inquiry automation, CRM, inventory — each connection point adds cost.
- Operations model: does your team need to publish posts themselves (admin UI required), or will you request edits?
- Handover scope: do you receive the full code repository, or does the site only run inside the vendor's platform?
- Discovery: classic SEO only, or a structure that can also be cited by AI answer engines?
People also forget recurring costs. Domain, hosting, business email, payment fees, and — if you added AI features — API usage all bill monthly. Comparing build fees alone is half a comparison.
What should you check first when a quote arrives?
Before the total, read the "definition of done" and the "what you take with you" clauses. Two quotes at the same price can diverge completely over two years if one hands you the source code and the other keeps you inside a proprietary platform. Asking the following usually prevents most disputes.
- Will the code repository (GitHub or similar) be transferred to our account at completion?
- Whose name is on the domain, hosting, and analytics accounts?
- How many revision rounds are included, in what scope, and what's the rate afterward?
- Can you list every recurring monthly cost with amounts?
- How are mobile, accessibility, and page speed verified, and will we get a written result?
- If AI-generated code is used, at which stage does a human review it?
- Are the quoted figures tax-inclusive or exclusive?
Common mistakes worth naming. First, comparing design mockup counts while leaving the feature spec unwritten. Second, starting the project promising to send copy "later" — which routinely doubles the timeline. Third, trusting a single line that says "SEO included." If it isn't broken out into items — structured data, sitemap, speed, content structure — assume it isn't there.
Should you build it yourself or hire it out?
The dividing line isn't skill, it's who fixes it at 2 a.m. when it breaks. For a portfolio or an experiment, building it yourself with AI tools and shipping fast is almost always the better trade. Once money moves through the site or customer data is stored, you're buying verification and operational responsibility, not just pixels.
If you built something yourself and want to put it in front of people, try launching your project. SAENRU is an open launch stage for AI builders: register and showcase your web or app project for free, collect votes and feedback. We encourage open launches on GitHub, and code ownership stays with the builder. The weekly vote winner gets a free week on the main banner plus an interview feature. It's a way to test reaction before spending on ads.
If you're hiring — our own numbers
We publish our pricing so you have a reference point. SAENRU Studio builds with an AI pipeline: websites from 2.7M KRW (about 2 weeks) and web app MVPs from 8.7M KRW (4–6 weeks). You see a first prototype within 48 hours, and the finished work is handed over as the entire GitHub repository. All prices exclude VAT.
If discovery is part of the problem, we also offer AEO/GEO consulting: a measured diagnostic report on how ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude actually answer about you for 190,000 KRW (5 business days), implementation packages from 3.6M KRW, and monthly operations from 1.47M KRW per month. The diagnostic fee is fully credited if you proceed to implementation. For what it's worth, the SAENRU homepage itself is a worked AEO example — raw HTML with embedded JSON-LD and llms.txt.
In short, AI website cost is less a question of "how much" and more of "how far." Write down three things before you collect quotes — feature list, recurring costs, ownership — and the numbers suddenly start making sense.
